BRAND IDENTITY

The Honeybee iOS app is a revolutionary new solution that empowers users with a Pollen Mobile "Honeybee" eSIM to easily navigate the world while also addressing weak network coverage areas. With the ability to "drop Pollen" in these areas, users can signal where coverage improvements are needed, ultimately incentivizing the growth of stronger network coverage, or "Flowers". This app is designed to enhance the user experience and provide a seamless connection wherever you go.

Challenge

Our goal with the Honeybee mobile app is to provide a seamless and enjoyable experience for users, while also addressing the key challenges of building a product in the WEB3, NFTs, and Crypto space. The key issues that tend to arise in these areas are scalability, security, how user-friendly experience even for the less tech-savvy users, as well as adaptability rates

With the brand new Honeybee mobile app, we wanted to bring core functionalities that would allow users to grow Pollen’s network while being able to earn cryptocurrency (PCN coin) in a gamified way.

Solution

To ensure a successful first app release, we identified the following key features and priorities:

Drop Pollen: The ability for users to drop Pollen in areas where the network coverage is weak, and signal where there needs to be coverage. By doing this, users are incentivized to grow the network and earn rewards.

Connect to nearby Flowers: Users can connect to nearby Flowers to use the Pollen Mobile network when they don't have service. This allows them to stay connected even in areas with weak coverage.

Compete to be the top Honeybee: The app includes a gamified feature where users can compete to be the top Honeybee and earn rewards. This adds an element of fun and engagement to the experience.

Onboarding

One of the challenges we faced early on during the development of our app was creating a smooth onboarding process for users. The crypto and NFT space are heavily regulated by Apple, which presented obstacles for us in terms of compliance. To overcome this challenge, we had to think creatively and find workarounds to comply with Apple's regulations while still providing a smooth onboarding experience for our users. This involved researching the latest guidelines and regulations and running user testing to gather feedback.

Moodboard and visual references

I always use moodboarding and collect UI references to align with the client on interpretations and future design directions, to have a source of relevant ideas where I can draw out some references and ideas. And also to spot any key and universal patterns and interactions that might be applicable and considered for our solution as well. Below you can see a part of the inspirational visual references that I had collected in the early stages of the design process.

Wireframes

Pollen iOS app users would “drop pollen” to earn Pollen Coin whilst on the go. We wanted to make the experience as seamless and as fun through gamification elements. We first tested out app in Beta to be able to respond to critical feedback and iterate the app.

As part of the design and app release process, I also designed the Appstore assets for our app launch.

What our users think about the Honeybee app

During both our beta testing and when the update went live, the reception was very positive!
